Schlagwerk: Art Of Percussion Featuring Vaibhav Wavikar

Vaibhav Wavikar, a drummer and percussionist from Mumbai, showcases remarkable versatility that transcends expectations. Proficient in both the rich traditions of Indian Classical music and the intricate syncopations of Jazz, he excels on a range of rhythmic instruments such as Drums and Percussion.

Let’s discover what makes Schlagwerk percussion Vaibhav’s choice.

Q. How were you first introduced to Schlagwerk?

Vaibhav: I saw my percussion idol performing with a Schlagwerk Cajon on stage. Even before I knew the instrument was called a “cajon,” I used to refer to it as “Schlagwerk.”

Q. Could you tell us about the Schlagwerk instrument you use and what factors influenced your decision to select it?

Vaibhav: I use the Schlagwerk La Peru Cajon and was truly impressed by its precise frequencies and the quality of its sound. It enables musicians to respond and adapt to various musical situations with ease.

Q. What are your impressions of the build quality and craftsmanship of Schlagwerk Cajons compared to other brands?

Vaibhav: I loved how they maintained the authenticity of the sound while keeping it elegant. Schlagwerk cajons demonstrate that even a basic model can deliver excellent sound. The craftsmanship of their products is also outstanding, with a refined aesthetic.

Q. How does the sound quality of Schlagwerk Cajons vary across the different models you’ve reviewed?

Vaibhav: Each model provided a distinct but exceptional feel. Despite the varying dynamics, the sound quality remains consistently impressive. For instance, the Super Agile is one of my favourites, offering a warm yet tight feel. The La Peru delivers a groovy, open tone that prompts a different response from me. Overall, any Schlagwerk product you choose will deliver top-notch sound.

Q. Do you have any other Schlagwerk instruments on your wishlist?

Vaibhav: I would love to own the Schlagwerk Log drum and Frame drums someday.

Q. How does your Schlagwerk instrument perform in studio and live settings? What do you appreciate most about its performance in each setting?

Vaibhav: In the studio, the sound is exceptionally well-defined, allowing you to hear all the frequencies. In a live setting, it can effectively replace the sound of a tight drum kit. Additionally, products like shakers and hot rods offer user-friendliness and durability, making them ideal for touring musicians.

Q. How would you introduce Schlagwerk to someone unfamiliar with their instruments or the brand?

Vaibhav: I’ve played my recordings and live performances for various music producers and directors I’ve worked with, and they consistently prefer Schlagwerk products.

Q. What are your thoughts on Schlagwerk’s philosophy of maintaining high-quality production in Germany without outsourcing?

Vaibhav: It’s a great philosophy, and you can feel the precision and discipline of the German products.

Q. Describe Schlagwerk in 3 words

Vaibhav: I would describe Schlagwerk as embodying class, finesse, and groove.
