Tech 21 Acoustic Fly Rig Pedal

Acoustic Tone in Your Backpack

The call comes in, and your chops are needed across the state — or across the country! Time to load up the car or pack your flight cases with your amp, pedalboard, and outboard gear, right? Wrong! All the acoustic instrument processing you need is neatly contained and easily accessible in Tech 21’s 12.5″ Acoustic Fly Rig guitar multi-effects unit. Tech 21’s renowned SansAmp amplifier emulator fills out the center section of the Acoustic Fly Rig, sandwiched between the EFX section on the left — with delay/chorus/reverb/XLR/headphones controls — and the Comp section on the right with its controls. The Acoustic Fly Rig is built tour tough, with an aluminum chassis and pro-grade footswitches, but it only weighs approximately 21 oz.

Leave your amp at home

Tech 21’s venerated SansAmp amplifier emulator is the all-analog focal point of the Acoustic Fly Rig. Since its invention by company co-founder Andrew Barta, the emulator has allowed players to give their acoustic amps a break and yet still take along the tones they love wherever they go. Its controls include Volume and Boost (up to 12dB), a lowpass filter, a semi-parametric 4-band EQ, and even a notch filter to limit acoustic feedback. The brightly displayed built-in tuner lives in this section and your Reverb latch is there, too, with settings from room to large hall.

Old-school compression for modern instruments

The Comp (compression) section inhabits the right side of the Acoustic Fly Rig. Here you have all-analog FET-based tech, giving you a warmer, more musically pleasing tone for your guitar or other acoustic instrument. This is the kind of effective, transparent compression many Sweetwater guitarists have spent years looking for!

Multiple effects accessible with just a tap

On the other end of the unit — but still only a few inches away — is the EFX section of the Acoustic Fly Rig. The DLA/CH button lets you choose between warm-sounding analog delay and pitch-shift-based chorus parameters, which are then controlled via the Tap/Tuner switch (also used to tap out your delay times, mute the signal path, and activate the tuner). The result is tons of flexible, creative control, all within a conveniently small, easily transported multi-effects unit. But don’t let its size fool you; the Acoustic Fly Rig doesn’t weigh much, but it’s no lightweight when it comes to durability. Its rugged metal housing can handle the rigors of the road for years of reliable performance.

Custom-designed, road-ready chassis and latches

The Tech 21 Acoustic Fly Rig doesn’t employ just any old footswitches. Andrew and his team utilized silent switching — custom actuators that won’t let you down in the middle of your set or anywhere along the tour. The whole unit resides in a durable, tough metal chassis that fits in just about any backpack, with metal jacks and footswitches for long-lasting service. Tech 21 even includes the necessary 9-volt power supply for your convenience.
